I met Lexi and Devin as part of a wedding workshop. They were models, who are actually a couple, chosen for our early morning Jefferson Memorial photoshoot. I instantly loved them. They were super stylish and incredibly cute together.

Cosplay Photography: Katsucon 2019
It seems my blog is getting full of cosplay photography. I’m ok with that.
Katsucon is the second convention I have gone to, and I always leave with a great impression of the cosplay community. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. When someone bumps into you, they turn around and apologize. Weird, right? I’ve been to plenty of concerts where that does not happen.

Looking for your next cosplay project? Check out these cosplay portraits with a Christmas twist. Featured is: Catwoman, RWBY and more!
This weekend is Katsucon! I am pretty excited to be going again this year. Seeing all the incredible cosplays is by far the best part of going to any convention. The work and artistry that is involved in the making of props, clothing, and accessories is always inspiring for me.
Cosplay Photography: Leesburg, Virginia
I’ve always loved fantasy novels, games, art, anything really. I’m obsessed with Brandon Sanderson novels, Zelda, and mythology. I found out about the world of cosplay after watching a short-lived show on the SyFy network called “Heroes of Cosplay.” I think they brought something similar back recently, but I haven’t watched it.
Anyways, I was amazed by the level of skill and artistry that went into these pieces of art people created. I love that they are everyday people who work normal jobs and then transform themselves into characters from beloved series, movies, and games. I started fantasizing about all the things I could create. It was part of the reason why I wanted to learn to sew. (I still haven’t gotten very far with that endeavor.)

Everyday Makers: Anne Rule-Thompson, Ceramicist
“This is your ten-minute warning,” Anne shouts from downstairs at her two boys.
As the boys race from bedroom to bathroom to get ready for school, Anne and her husband make breakfast, feed the dog, and get the boys out the door.
The school-day scramble is in full swing and is the storm before the calm of Anne’s quiet downtown Bolivar, W.V., ceramics studio.
“There was a long time when the kids were little when I didn’t really have a place, and it was a struggle,” Anne said. “I guess that’s why I am here.”

Northern Virginia Family Photography: Melinda and Jared’s Spring Session
It’s a warm spring day. A cute little family of four and I set out to take some spring family photos in Northern Virginia. Before the session, Melinda and I chatted about what her family likes to do together. Spending time at Morven Park was on the list.

Beyond the “About Me” Page: Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Photographer
Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down. Just kidding, but if you want a good laugh this comic still makes me giggle over a decade later. It was created in 2004. Which, happens to be the first time I picked up a camera with the purpose of storytelling.
Storytelling has been ingrained in my photography since the beginning because when I first started it was tied to journalism. Finding photos that could stand on their own, in a series, or expand on the story was a hunt I enjoyed. Everything I loved about journalism: interviewing, getting to know people, finding out their personal story and why a subject matter means so much to them is what I’ll bring to the table when I photograph you.

Virginia Beach Engagement Photography: Michelle and Spencer
This Virginia Beach engagement is probably my favorite session so far. Granted, I am VERY biased since the lovely woman is my sister.
My sister is one of my best friends. There is no one else who understands our crazy family or gets every obscure Spongebob quote. Who remembers the turmoil of hearing Dad’s alarm clock in your dreams at five in the morning. I am so glad of our incredibly special relationship.
